We would like to introduce the second alumna in our Step into STEM series, Maureen Dalton, Class of 1969, who is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
After leaving Channing Maureen resat her A levels twice eventually gaining grades to study medicine at the Royal Free Medical School. After qualifying she worked in hospitals in London, Oxford, Sheffield and Leeds, becoming a consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology initially in Sunderland and later in Exeter. She has pioneered work in sexual offences medicine, caring for victims of sexual assault of all ages and genders. Maureen has also edited two books on ethics in Reproductive Medicine. She chaired the Committee for the Department of Health to develop exams ensuring victims can be seen by trained practitioners and is a Foundation Fellow of the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine.
After retirement from hospital work Maureen continued advising NHS England, Police forces and Police and Crime Commissioners to raise the standard of victim care.
