Students and teachers alike are treated to a captivating and enlightening journey into the world of the Aztecs, courtesy of Year 4’s impressive assembly. The atmosphere was electric. The melodic strains of Mexican music filling the air, expertly played by the talented Year 6 Mariachi Band, created the perfect backdrop for an immersive exploration of Aztec history and culture.

With a blend of enthusiasm and wit, the girls breathed life into the subject matter, seamlessly weaving together entertainment and education. They skillfully guided us through the Aztecs’ evolution from nomadic wanderers to the founders of the magnificent city of Tenochtitlan, nestled amidst the waters of Lake Texcoco. Touching upon various aspects of Aztec life, from their dietary habits and attire to the intricacies of their religious beliefs, including the contentious topic of human sacrifice, the girls provided a comprehensive understanding of this ancient civilization.

Through engaging skits and insightful dialogue, they brought to life pivotal figures such as Moctezuma II, valiant Aztec warriors, as well as the formidable Hernan Cortes and his band of Spanish soldiers, offering valuable insights into the complex dynamics between the Aztecs and the Spanish conquistadors.

Infused with humour and boundless energy, the assembly was a delightful play, punctuated by moments of dance and music that fostered a sense of unity and joy among all present.

Miss Hamalis, Head of the Junior School, wrote:

I commend the Year 4 girls for their exemplary commitment and dedication in delivering such a memorable performance. Their collaborative spirit, creativity, and passion for historical learning were truly evident throughout.
