Channing launches its 10 year Strategic Objectives

School News

We've just launched our vision for Channing 2035 to coincide with the school’s 140th anniversary - WOW - with all that age comes wisdom, right?! We are so pleased to share our ambitious strategy designed to ensure Channing students are well-prepared to navigate and contribute meaningfully to a rapidly changing world.

At a parent meeting to launch the new strategy, Headmistress, Lindsey Hughes, said, “We believe that the existing vision of Girls Enjoying Success remains central to our purpose as a school.  It encapsulates our academic ambition, our genuine care for individuals and our emphasis on pupil voice. Our Unitarian ethos underpins the nature of our school community, giving us our values and the Channing Promise, by which we all live.

Fundamentally we couldn’t put it better than William Ellery Channing.  His beautiful line, “Each of us is intended to have a character all our own, to be what no other can exactly be and do what no other can exactly do”, encapsulates our mission to create individual outcomes for every child."

Chair of Governors, Leanne Leigh, added, “As we approach Channing’s 140th birthday, I am humbled by the knowledge that we are custodians of a rich legacy. Our responsibility is to honour the vision and dedication of those who came before us whilst ensuring the school continues to thrive and evolve for generations to come.

The world is now a vastly different place to that of 140 years ago. We all know the pressures our young people face, from the impact of social media, to environmental challenges, economic uncertainty, and political instability. These forces can sometimes feel overwhelming. Our 2035 Strategic Objectives offer us a clear and inspiring roadmap. These objectives guide us to not only preserve the proud history of Channing, but to ensure that we remain a dynamic, forward-thinking school in an ever-changing world.”

Vision

Girls Enjoying Success

Mission

We foster fearless learners through inspiring education, exceptional co-curricular opportunities and meaningful partnerships, creating individual outcomes for every child: “Each of us is intended to have a character all our own, to be what no other can exactly be and do what no other can exactly do.” (William Ellery Channing)

Our Unitarian ethos encourages our pupils to be intellectually curious, open-minded and respectful. We build on the power of an all-girls education to develop kind, confident, articulate young women who are ready for life’s challenges.

Strategic Objectives

  • Building on the Ethos of Channing

Creating and delivering a stimulating and innovative curriculum, underpinned by our Unitarian values and preparing students for life beyond Channing.

  • Educational Ambition

Using trusted evidence-based techniques to ensure every child is supported, motivated and inspired to achieve their best academically.

  • Wellbeing and Belonging

Fostering the continued growth of an inclusive school community where staff and students lead rewarding and purposeful lives.

  • Social Impact

Embedding Channing at the heart of our wider community.

  • Responsibility, Resilience and Innovation

Ensuring the school is financially and environmentally sustainable for the long term.

These five objectives are the culmination of 8 months of work - but the most exciting part is still to come, with the contributions parents, pupils and the staff will be making to bring these to life.

If you'd like to hear more we invite you to watch this 15 minute film, here.

We can't wait to share more news of how these objectives unfold over the coming months and years!
