Last Monday marked the exciting launch of our new Sixth Form mentoring programme. A group of our dedicated mentors made their way to the HNCP centre for their very first session supporting pupils from Brookfield Primary School and St. Joseph’s Primary School.
This new weekly “hub” is a key partnership within our Education Plus programme, which is focused on providing opportunities for all young people to flourish, regardless of their social or economic background.
Held at the HNCP centre on Bertram Road, the hub gives Sixth Formers the chance to provide vital academic and pastoral support to Key Stage 2 pupils who may benefit from extra guidance.
We are incredibly proud of our mentors, who have been thoroughly prepared for this role. They received specialist training from Kidscape and additional academic support training from teachers at Channing Junior School.
The sessions themselves are a fantastic collaboration. After the pupils receive support with their academic work, the fun begins! Leaders from Active Day Camp join our mentors to run engaging activities, blending learning with play.
This is a wonderful new initiative, and we look forward to seeing this partnership grow.
From one of the Sixth Form Hub mentors:
We made our way to Highgate Newtown Community Centre where we were all paired up with the children that we will be working with throughout the year. After a quick introduction, we started to help our mentees with their homework. We then spent the second half of our first session playing a few games of stuck in the mud and bulldog.
We are all looking forward to next week 🙂
