We started the new season of Music at Lunchtime with Lydia O singing nine songs from her second album, whilst accompanying herself on the piano – a feat in itself! Lydia began with ‘Candlelight Saturdays’ – a lovely reflective song to set the scene for the recital. ‘Consequence’ then provided a more upbeat contrast, followed by two more beautiful and thoughtful numbers – ‘Phantom Mask’ and ‘Who to Fail’. ‘The Dreamer’ is a wistful song performed with much emotion. ‘London Streets’ is another thoughtful song with a recognisable descending riff, sung with real confidence. Lydia then moved on to ‘Burn On’ and ‘Oxford Dream’, two great songs showing off Lydia’s creativity in songwriting. The recital closed with ‘Arson’, a fiery song that steadily built with an exciting accelerando towards the end!
