Anatomy Club (Y7 & 8) is a short course that focuses on the key anatomical features of small animals and will develop dissection skills, as well as provide a detailed insight into the way biological structures are related to their functions. As part of the course pupils will look at and dissect a mammalian eye, heart, a small rodent, and a small amphibian. They will also look at the physiology of vision and the brain in conjunction with their dissection sessions.

Aided by the Year 12 Biology students the Dissection Club for Year 7 and 8 began with the dissection of a chicken wing to show the anatomy of the muscles, tendons and ligaments at the joint.

Students also enjoyed dissecting a sheep’s eyeball. The lens was particularly well preserved in the specimens, so they could clearly see how it magnified the text on paper!

The students also dissected a whole rat; investigating the internal organs and how they are arranged inside the body cavity.
