Alumnae News |
This week we would like to introduce the third alumna in our Step into STEM series, Sophie Roberts, Class of 2000.
Sophie Roberts is a Specialist Registrar in Infectious Diseases and Medical Microbiology (ID/MM). She looks after people with transmissible viral, bacterial and parasitic infections.
Sophie took an unconventional route to medical school. With a passion for science, after graduating from Channing in 2000, with A Levels in Biology, English and Geography she went to the University of Leeds to study Zoology. Here she learned how parasites manipulate their hosts’ behaviour to aid transmission.
After graduating with BSc Hons (2:1), and a passion for parasites, she travelled to Ghana to work in a hospital. Upon returning to the UK, Sophie worked at the Natural History Museum in London, initially in the Parasitology Department and later the Education Department, where she worked in Science Communication. Whilst working, she completed Chemistry A Level and gained a place at St George’s University of London medical school in 2006.
Sophie graduated from St George’s University of London in 2011.
