Miss Hamalis' Bulletin - Scholarship, Integrity, Altruism and Independence

Find out what what Miss Hamalis had to say in her recent Bulletin below.

As a school we aim to develop scholarship, integrity, altruism and independence in our pupils and work hard to integrate these core values into the girls’ educational journey. Among these, altruism occupies a distinctive position, and we take great pride in fostering this in our pupils. A tangible manifestation of this commitment is through one of our eight Channing Characters, Empathy Rabbit, who cultivates empathy in the girls, encouraging them to give back to their community and beyond.

This morning, in assembly, we welcomed Mrs Craig, accompanied by Ray and the Hypo Hound dog, Buzz, representing the charity Hypo Hounds. In the Summer Term, the Channing Association successfully raised funds for this incredible organisation, which specialises in training support dogs capable of detecting dangerous changes in the blood sugar levels of children with Type 1 Diabetes. It is particularly gratifying to note that one of these remarkable dogs, Buzz, has made a positive impact on one of our pupils, Georgia C (6B) and her family.

I would like to  highlight some of the other initiatives that underscore our commitment to charitable endeavours and community involvement. Over the years, we have fostered a close relationship with the charity Kissing it Better. Our collaboration involves organising visits to local care homes and hospitals, exemplifying our commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of others. Just last week, pupils in Y5K visited Cheverton Lodge to sing a collection of Sea Shanties to residents, creating a joyful atmosphere where everyone joined in. This term, many of our KS2 pupils will continue to visit care homes sharing music, and deepening connections over a drink and biscuit.

Furthermore, we have strengthened our ties with the Alexandra Wylie Tower Foundation, collecting items from families in Waterlow House and Goodwin House so far this academic year. Thank you to all those who generously donated items. Our dedication to community service extends to supporting the food bank in Highbury, where Miss McGinnety (Deputy Head Academic) and Miss Wright (Assistant Head CoCurricular) donated their time to set up and distribute food earlier this month. Following this initial visit, the Autumn Term Year 6 House Captains will be the first pupils to offer their time, next week, to help set up a weekly food bank which will enable them to educate their peers on the impact of our collective donations.

Additionally, we have expanded our partnership clubs this term, welcoming pupils from St Joseph’s Primary, Brookfield Primary and Highgate Primary. These clubs encompass various subjects and interests, providing opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing among our pupils and pupils from different local schools. For more information on our work on partnerships, please watch our Partnerships video.

Thank you for your ongoing support as we continue to instil the values of empathy, charity and community service in our pupils.  As we navigate the educational journey together, let us be reminded of the powerful message: “In a world where you can be anything, be kind.” Your commitment enhances our collective efforts to nurture compassionate and socially responsible individuals.
